When I watched this documentary in class, I was very shocked. I had no idea any of this ever went on. The conditions that those children were living in was terrifying. I was glad to see that throughout the movie their situation, though still not ideal, did improve. These are some of my favorite Michael Carroll pictures:
Looking at the website for Romanian Children's Relief, it seems as if the children are doing a lot better. I don't think the living conditions will ever be perfect but I'm glad that things are improving.
I remember seeing the newspaper article, it was just horrifying, I felt so bad for the children, and for the adults who were forced to have children by their government when they could not afford to keep them...just so terrible. I am glad that people are not forced to have children in Romania any longer, the birth rate is going way down, and the number of orphans are much smaller, and many orphanages are supported by charities run from other countries... thank goodness the medical situation is also better... but Romania still has a long way to go.
